Living With Pride

Living With Pride

As we wrap up Pride Month, we know how brave the LGTBQIA+ community is for living out loud in the current world we live in. While many are out of the closet, many are still living in quiet fear - living a life not authentic to them. We will continue to fight for a society that welcomes everyone's differences allowing those living in silence to feel safe and accepted. Keidrick Goss is an example of someone who is living out loud as gay, biracial man in America. Read his story to learn about how he rises above the discrimination.

Where are you from? What is your ethnic background?

I am from right here in Texas. I was born and raised down in Ennis, went to college out in Nacogdoches and moved here to Dallas after that. I am of Biracial descent (lol), my mother is Hispanic and my father is African American.

What's a regular day for you? Hmm

My alarm goes off at about 7:55am. I hit the snooze button but my conscious doesn’t allow me to sleep much longer. I get up; shower, brush my teeth, wash my face and throw on my scrubs - the most comfy work uniform ever. I head out of the door to work no later than 8:15am. I walk to work, which is about a mile from my apartment. I always stop at McDonald’s for a Caramel Iced Latte. Lol! Then, I head into the job around 8:30. I am a Medical Administrative Assistant, so I spend my days on a double screen computer handling insurance, patient scheduling, registering, billing and anything else you can think. 6pm comes and I’m making my way back to my house. I get home, take my little dog out for a walk. Feed and water him (Bam-Bam). I then lay around my house doing nothing. I’m obsessed with YouTube and Netflix. I’m up all night (around 2) and then I pass out to do it all again the next day. Lol

Have you faced any discrimination based on being YOU? Your sexual orientation? If so, how did you overcome it?

Funny story: I let a friend talk me into going to a bar that I have never been to here in Dallas . I got dressed to go just like I would any other night. We pull up to this bar and I immediately feel uncomfortable. I walk in the bar and one of the patrons yells “hey boy, you in the wrong bar.” I immediately withdrew.  Not only was I a colored man in a white man's bar, but I was gay. I just wanted to leave. When asked why I ran from the issue, why I let that guy run me out, I replied: I do not have to put up with that. I am fairly certain I won’t ever be back so why not let them live in ignorance and go to a bar where I’m celebrated for being me. Every battle isn’t yours to fight. I didn’t fight back because I didn’t have to.

What do you wish people knew about you?

That I am the biggest empath in the world. I can feel someone else’s pain from across the globe.
